How To Include Multiple Dogs in One Photoshoot
Photographing multiple dogs together can be a joyful yet challenging experience, but trust me, it’s worth it! As a dog photographer, my goal is always to capture the unique bond and personalities of each furbaby in one beautiful image.
The Challenge of Group Shots
Dogs, like people, have their own moods and energy levels. Getting all pups to look at the camera, sit still, or show their best expression at the same time can sometimes feel like pulling teeth. It takes patience, timing, and a bit of magic to get that perfect group shot.
How I Capture Multiple Dogs Together
1. The Classic Group Shot:
Whenever possible, I’ll get all the dogs posing together in a single frame. This creates a natural, authentic moment that perfectly showcases their relationship.
2. The Composite Technique:
Sometimes, despite our best efforts, one or more dogs may not look their best in the group shot. Maybe one’s eyes are closed, or they’re distracted. That’s when I use a technique called a composite, where I combine several photos of each dog into one flawless image.
This way, every dog shines in the final picture without losing the feeling of being together.
A Behind-the-Scenes Example
Here’s a photo where one dog’s expression wasn’t quite what I wanted in the original group shot:

By carefully blending a few separate shots, I was able to create a final image that truly captured the moment and the dogs’ personalities — all in one frame.
Why It Matters
Using composites means I never have to settle for less than perfect. Your dogs get the spotlight they deserve, and you get a timeless photo that feels genuine and joyful.
Final Tip for Multi-Dog Photoshoots
Bringing multiple dogs together can take extra patience and a relaxed approach. Ensure they’re well-exercised, comfortable, and have treats readily available. This helps keep everyone happy and focused during the session.
