Indoor vs. Outdoor Dog Photography – Which is Right for You and Your Pup?
When planning a photoshoot for your dog, you must ask yourself whether you want indoor or outdoor photos. Each option has it's own unique benefit and each choice depends on your dog's comfort level, dog's personality, and style of images you are hoping for. Both are great options and I'll explain why.
Outdoor Dog Photography
For adventure-loving pups and golden-hour magic
Outdoor sessions are great if:
- Your dog is more relaxed to open spaces and loves exploring outdoors
- You want that natural dreamy light with vibrant scenery
- You love playful, candid shots with real energy and movement
- You're celebrating a specific season (fall leaves, snow-dusted fur, or spring blooms.)

Indoor Dog Photography
For dogs who thrive in familiar and calm spaces
Indoor sessions are great if:
- Your dog is anxious or reactive around other dogs, people, or unfamiliar places
- You want a calm studio-style with clean and neutral-toned backgrounds
- You love posed, intentional portraits that bring out the model in your dog
- You're going for a specific theme, lighting style, or custom backdrop

Can't Decide? You Don't Have To!
Some of my clients love mixing both styles by booking one indoor and one outdoor session, so they have a beautiful variety of photos to choose from. Let's chat about what suits your pup's comfort level and personality.
