Indoor Dog Photoshoots in Calgary

If you live in Calgary, you know exactly what I mean when I say… second winter is back. This week alone brought freezing temperatures, icy sidewalks, and that “I thought we were done with this?” feeling.

While outdoor sessions are beautiful, they’re not always realistic when winter decides to make an encore appearance. That’s where indoor dog photoshoots come in.

Here are five reasons they might be the perfect fit for you and your furbaby.

1. You Don't Have to Leave Your House

I come to you, so there’s no packing up the car, rushing to meet park times, or trying to coordinate around unpredictable weather. Your session takes place in your home, on your schedule, in the space your dog already knows and loves. For busy dog moms, that convenience alone is a game changer.

2. Your Dog Is More Relaxed at Home

Some dogs thrive outdoors, but others feel safest in their own space. Indoor sessions are perfect for:

  • Reactive dogs
  • Senior dogs
  • Puppies still finishing vaccinations
  • Dogs who get overstimulated easily

When your dog feels comfortable, their personality shows naturally and that’s what creates photos that actually feel like them.

3. I Bring Everything We Need

You don’t need a studio. I bring all my professional equipment, lighting, and gear to create beautiful, clean portraits right inside your home. All I need is a good open wall, some natural light if available, and of course, your dog. That’s it, no fancy decor required. I can even change the background to any colour you want, and add text or other elements to the image to make it truly unique as seen below.

4. Weather Is No Longer a Factor

Living in Calgary means surprise snow, extreme cold snaps, and wind that never seems to quit. Indoor dog photography eliminates all of that which means no rescheduling because it’s -25°C, no frozen fingers, and no muddy spring paws. Instead, your session happens in warmth, comfort, and a calm environment.

5. The Photos Feel More Personal

There is something deeply emotional about photographing your dog where life actually happens on the couch, by the window, or in the hallway they run down every day. Years from now, you won’t just remember how they looked, you’ll remember the space you shared. Indoor sessions aren’t just convenient, they’re truly meaningful.

One of the biggest worries I hear from dog owners is, “What if my dog doesn’t cooperate?” Maybe they don’t have the best recall. Maybe they can’t sit still for more than two seconds. Maybe they’re easily distracted by squirrels, people, or literally anything happening around them. The good news? Your dog does not need to be perfectly trained for a photography session.

Fall is one of my favourite times of year for dog photography. The changing leaves, warm golden light, and beautiful colours make the perfect backdrop for photos that feel cozy, colourful, and full of personality. This year, I’ll be offering both fall mini sessions and full dog photography sessions throughout Calgary.

Choosing the right location can make a big difference in your dog's photos. While every park has something unique to offer, there are a few things I always look for before recommending a spot. My goal is to find a location that not only looks beautiful but also helps your dog feel comfortable throughout the session.

Family photos with your dog are some of the most meaningful images you'll ever have. While they may look effortless, there's a lot happening behind the scenes to make sure everyone looks their best...including your pup. Here are a few ways I create beautiful family portraits while keeping the session relaxed and enjoyable.

Summer is one of my favourite seasons for dog photography. The lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and long evenings create beautiful backdrops, but they can also make editing a little more challenging. It's easy to get carried away trying to make colours pop, only to end up with images that don't look natural. Here are five common summer editing mistakes I see and how I avoid them.

If you've ever wondered why I recommend evening sessions, the answer is simple: golden hour helps me create beautiful photos of your dog. Golden hour is the period just before sunset when the light becomes softer, warmer, and more flattering. Unlike the harsh midday sun, it creates a natural glow that helps your dog look their best.

Summer is a great time to get outside and enjoy Calgary's parks, trails, and green spaces with your dog. But as temperatures rise, it's important to take extra precautions to keep your furry friend safe and comfortable. Dogs can overheat much faster than people, so a little planning can go a long way.

Having multiple dogs means more personalities, more memories, and a whole lot more love. But one question I get often is: “Can you actually get all of my dogs looking at the camera at the same time?” The answer? Absolutely. Photographing multiple dogs takes patience, preparation, and a little bit of strategy, but capturing your whole pack together is one of my favourite parts of a session.

Graduation season is here! It's a time filled with excitement, change, and the feeling that one chapter is ending while another is just beginning. For many dog moms and grads, there’s one special face that has been there through it all: their dog. The late nights studying, the stressful moments, the exciting wins, and all the everyday memories in between, your dog has been part of this chapter too. So why not celebrate this milestone with the one who has been by your side?

When people think of Father's Day, they usually think of dads and their children, but there's another group of dads who deserve some recognition too: dog dads. They're the ones waking up early for walks, carrying extra treats in their pockets, and somehow ending up with hundreds of photos of their dog on their phone. Whether they admit it or not, dog dads play a huge role in their pup's life. This Father's Day, let's celebrate the dog dads who show up every day for their four-legged best friends.
