How I Turn ANY Home Into a Studio (Without You Lifting a Finger)

Chantell Schulz • April 16, 2026

You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect home to get beautiful photos of your dog.

In fact, most of the homes I photograph in are completely normal, lived in, a little cluttered, and full of the things that make your dog feel safe. That’s exactly what makes indoor sessions so special.

If you’ve ever thought, “My house isn’t nice enough for photos”… this is for you.

What You See vs. What I See

When I walk into your home, we’re usually seeing two completely different things.

What you see:

  • a couch that’s a bit worn
  • dog toys everywhere
  • lighting that feels “bad”

What I see:

  • where your dog is most comfortable
  • where the light actually works best
  • a simple space I can turn into something beautiful

Most of the time, I only need a small area to work with, not your entire home.

What also looks ordinary in real life can look completely different once it’s photographed and edited with intention.

I Bring the Light (So You Don’t Have to Have Perfect Lighting)

One of the biggest concerns I hear is: “My house is too dark.” Honestly? That’s completely fine.

I bring my own lighting, so I’m not relying on your home to have perfect natural light. Whether your space is bright or a little darker, I can create the look we need no matter what.

I’ll set everything up in a way that feels easy and comfortable, without turning your home into a full studio setup.

You don’t need big windows or ideal lighting, I take care of that part for you.

I Can Turn the Simplest Space Into Anything You Want

You don’t need a styled setup or a “photo-ready” space. All I need is a blank wall.

From there, I can completely transform the background in editing to match whatever look you love: light, dark, neutral, bold… it’s all customizable after your session.

The same goes for props. If your dog isn’t the type to sit still with accessories or setups, we don’t force it. I can add certain props in afterwards so your dog stays comfortable the entire time.

No pressure on them. No stress for you. Just a final image that looks exactly how you envisioned without asking your dog to do something they don’t enjoy.

Your Dog Doesn’t Have to “Perform”

Indoor sessions are naturally more relaxed.

Your dog is in a space they already know, which means:

  • less stress
  • less overstimulation
  • more natural expressions

There’s no pressure for them to sit perfectly or behave a certain way as I guide everything in a way that works with your dog, not against them.

You Don’t Need to Prepare, That’s My Job

You don’t need to deep clean your house, you don’t need to redecorate, and you don’t need to stress. All you need to do is let me in and trust the process.

I’ll take care of the rest.

Thinking About an Indoor Session?

If you’ve been wanting photos of your dog but felt like your home wasn’t “good enough,” I promise it already is.

Indoor sessions are designed to be simple, stress-free, and focused entirely on your dog’s personality.

If this feels like the right fit for you, I’d love to plan a session for your furbaby.

Summer is a great time to get outside and enjoy Calgary's parks, trails, and green spaces with your dog. But as temperatures rise, it's important to take extra precautions to keep your furry friend safe and comfortable. Dogs can overheat much faster than people, so a little planning can go a long way.

Having multiple dogs means more personalities, more memories, and a whole lot more love. But one question I get often is: “Can you actually get all of my dogs looking at the camera at the same time?” The answer? Absolutely. Photographing multiple dogs takes patience, preparation, and a little bit of strategy, but capturing your whole pack together is one of my favourite parts of a session.

Graduation season is here! It's a time filled with excitement, change, and the feeling that one chapter is ending while another is just beginning. For many dog moms and grads, there’s one special face that has been there through it all: their dog. The late nights studying, the stressful moments, the exciting wins, and all the everyday memories in between, your dog has been part of this chapter too. So why not celebrate this milestone with the one who has been by your side?

When people think of Father's Day, they usually think of dads and their children, but there's another group of dads who deserve some recognition too: dog dads. They're the ones waking up early for walks, carrying extra treats in their pockets, and somehow ending up with hundreds of photos of their dog on their phone. Whether they admit it or not, dog dads play a huge role in their pup's life. This Father's Day, let's celebrate the dog dads who show up every day for their four-legged best friends.

A lot of dog parents assume their dog wouldn’t enjoy a professional photoshoot. Maybe they’re super energetic, maybe they never sit still, or maybe they get distracted easily or seem “too much.” The truth is, most dogs actually end up having way more fun during a session than their owners expect. If you’ve ever wondered whether your dog would enjoy a photoshoot, here are a few signs they probably would.

Spring is one of the most beautiful times of year for dog photography sessions. The snow melts away, the grass turns green again, and everything starts feeling fresh and alive. Of course, spring also brings muddy paws, shedding season, and unpredictable Alberta weather, which means a little preparation can go a long way before your session. May long weekend always feels like the unofficial start of summer… until Calgary weather decides otherwise. One minute it’s sunny and warm, the next it’s raining sideways and everyone’s digging winter jackets back out. But honestly? Your dog doesn’t care if the plans are fancy. They just care about spending time with you. So if the forecast is looking questionable this weekend, here are a few dog-friendly ideas for both the sunny moments and the rainy ones.

Still searching for a Mother’s Day gift that actually feels meaningful? If the dog mom in your life treats her furbaby like family, a dog photography session is something she’ll remember long after flowers have wilted and chocolates are gone. The best part? You don’t need weeks of planning to make it happen.

After what always feels like the longest winter here in Calgary, the shift is finally happening. The snow melts, the air softens, and suddenly everything feels a little lighter again. If you’re anything like most dog moms, this is when you start thinking about getting outside more: longer walks, golden evening light, muddy paws, and those happy post-winter zoomies. It also happens to be one of the best times of year for photos.
